Former Pakistani pacemaker Wasim Akram thinks India's Premier League has not done much to help Indian players win the T20 World Cup trophy. The last time
India won his T20 WC Trophy was in 2007, a year before him in the first season of the IPL. It was the Men in Blue title win that saw the IPL make rapid progress.
Today, the IPL is arguably the best league in the world in terms of competitiveness, sponsorship, large market and funding. The tournament produced world-class players for the Indian team, but did not go on to win the flagship event in the shortest form.
India were heavily criticized by the Cricket Brotherhood for failing to give their best in the decisive moment of the knockout stage. After India lost to England in the T20 World Cup semi-finals, Akram believes the IPL made no difference to India's cricket in his T20Is.
“Everyone thought the IPL would be a big difference between India and other teams. The IPL started in 2008. Before that, India had won the T20 World Championship in 2007. Since the start of the IPL, India has never won a T20 World Championship. They won the world championship in 2011, but it's 50 overs," Akram told A Sports. He added that players will face other conditions that will help them perform well for their country in big events.
India will join New Zealand from 18 November Compete in a 3-match series of T20I and ODI to face each other.
